Wedding Ring Lost On Anna Maria Island, Recovered By SRARC

Evan, Savana, and their daughter Bristol came down with cousins from Augusta, Georgia to Anna Maria Island for a week of Sun and Fun. They were at a gulf side beach enjoying the calm water when the boys decided to throw a football back and forth. When they returned to the beach and sat down Evan felt for his wedding ring and “oh no” it wasn’t there. Evan remembered that on one of his catches his ring finger got jammed and he figured that was when it must have come off. The whole group looked for about a half an hour and decided there was no way they would find it. The next day they were talking with some locals who suggested they look on Google for a group that could help hunt with metal detectors. Savana found SRARC and called Robert Velarde who contacted Mike Miller. Mike made arrangements to meet them the next afternoon at low tide and then the hunt was on. Given the approximate area that Evan was standing, Mike started searching. About twenty minutes later Mike heard the sweet sound of a good target and sure enough the glint of gold showed up in his scoop. What a pleasure to see all the smiles as Mike returned the ring to Evan. Always a great day when you get find and return something that is cherished by its owner and family.

Gabriel and his wife were down from Virgina visiting his close friend Caleb and his family. They all packed up and went to Lido Beach for a fun day in the sun and surf. Gabriel was out in about knee-deep water tossing a football back and forth with Caleb. As Gabriel reached to catch the ball it hit his hand and off shot his wedding ring. They all looked for the ring but had no luck. Caleb remembered that there was a group that would search for lost rings and soon found SRARC ring finders with a google search. Caleb called Joe Szemer and Joe called Mike Miller who scheduled a meet with them at the beach. After searching for about 20 minutes Mike came up with the ring and handed it to an overjoyed Gabriel. The whole group came down to the water and we all did a happy dance. SRARC is happy that Gabriel can now return to Virginia with a good memory of his visit to Florida.

Mark and Amber were down from Pittsburg to visit family and friends, and to enjoy the beach from their seaside condo.  Amber was mossing a defender in an intense game of football in waist-deep water, and soon after discovered that her beautiful wedding ring was no longer on her finger!  The group snorkeled for hours trying to recover Amber’s precious ring.  The couple started to lose hope and were already discussing a replacement ring when they returned to Pennsylvania, when a bypasser suggested they look up Ringfinders on the internet.  They found the site and were directed to the Suncoast Research and Recovery Club.  Mark and Amber contacted SRARC vice president Joe Szemer, who made arrangements for a hunt with metal detectors.  Club members Bill Gallant, Ed Osmar, and Mike Shuler responded and started gridding the area.  After about 45 minutes of searching, an emotional Amber was able to pick her ring out of the scoop and place it back on her finger!  We’re glad Mark and Amber will be able to fully enjoy the rest of their visit!

Lost Ring Recovered In Shell Key

Some friends and I were enjoying a Saturday boat outing on Shell Key. Everything was going well… until that “moment.” We were getting ready to head back and the boat driver asked “Hey Matt, can you hop out and grab that anchor?” I immediately jumped off the boat, grabbed the anchor and swam to the back of the boat to get back on board. I was standing on the swim platform and spun to the left to grab the other anchor. That’s when the “moment,” happened. I saw my wedding band slide off my finger and into the ocean below. I immediately yelled “Shut off the engine,” and jumped into the water frantically diving below to search for my ring. After about an hour of searching, I returned to the boat and called 5 local dive shops to see if they could send out a diver to search for the ring. They were all skeptical with the typical response being “There’s no way we’re going to find it, I’m sure the currents would have taken the ring, it could be hundreds of feet from where you originally dropped it.” I started to lose hope and could not stop dwelling on the thought that one of the most meaningful items I would ever own would be lost forever.
I didn’t give up and continued to call local dive shops. After a few more calls and no luck I started googling looking for help. That’s when I stumbled across The Ring Finders website which led me to reach out to the Suncoast Research and Recovery Club. I initially reached out to Howard who took my call while he was meeting with a client. I explained the situation to him and he reached out to the club to find some volunteers to help recover the ring. Later in the evening I received a call from Joe, who helped plan the hunt. We decided to meet at Tierra Verde marina on Sunday at 3PM so that they could search during low tide. Sunday came around and 3 hunters showed up, Joe, Tom and Ed. Slowly, the remorse and feelings of despair turned to hope as there were 3 hunters with over 40 years of collective experience helping to find my ring.
They searched for about an hour and a half with no luck. Ed started following me as I was in the water searching with my feet. After about another half hour, Ed looked up and said “I’m not sure if this yours, but I found one.” I raced over to him and looked at the ring. To my amazement he had found it. The feeling in that moment is hard to describe, but I can tell you it was one of the best moments of my life. I will forever be thankful to the SRARC, Ed, Tom, Joe and Howard. The entire experience of dealing with them was amazing and these guys are some of the most altruistic people I have ever met.
